Andrew Bullard - Central High School

Andrew, a senior, is a top student who enjoys learning. He holds a 4.3 weighted grade point average and scored 28 on the ACT. His AP European History teacher describes him as a deep thinker and excellent writer who comes to class well prepared. Last year, Andrew took AP U.S. History and earned a top score of "5" on the AP exam. He was one of only two students to earn an "A" in the Practical Law class for the first quarter. Because of his experience with the work required in Advanced Placement classes, Andrew currently is mentoring younger students who are receiving their first exposure to "college level" course work. Andrew is taking Honors Facing History and Ourselves and Honors Contemporary Issues as electives because of his love for history and the social sciences. He is an extremely dependable and academically talented student who is committed to community service. He is a gifted vocalist and four-year member of the school's choral group. He has been selected for the All West Tennessee Senior High Choir the past two years. He and his fellow Concert Choir members have performed with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra in a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King for three years. Andrew also was chosen to travel with the Central High Choral Group in a performance at the Lincoln Center in New York City. The group also competed in a competition in Washington last spring, where the choir received first place and superior ratings. Andrew is one of the section leaders for the tenors and spends numerous hours with his peers preparing for these regional and national performances. Andrew is completing the requirements to become an Eagle Scout. He was chosen by his peers to be a member of the Order of the Arrow. During his seven years of Scouting, Andrew developed a keen appreciation for nature. His Leadership Service Project involves landscaping the grounds at his church, which will have an impact on the community. In addition, Andrew is a five-year volunteer at First Presbyterian Church's Soup Kitchen for the needy. Because of his concern for protecting the environment, he became a member of the Sierra Club in middle school. He also has assisted with community service projects on the Green Line.
