
Winner in Career-Technical on March 14th, 2010
Karl, a senior, is an outstanding student and leader. He holds a 4.4 weighted grade point average and scored 29 on the ACT. He currently is ranked in the top five in his senior class of 252 students. Karl was selected for and attended the National Youth Leadership Forum for Medicine at Boston University. He also was a founding member of the Engineering Club and member of the competition teams that won the Overall Team Award at the University of Mississippi Competition last year. Karl has been inducted into the National Honor Society, National French Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society. He has received highest average awards in French, algebra, physical science and microbiology. He held a chair in the West Tennessee Honor Band and placed in the Annual Tennessee History Day Competition. Karl also has been captain of the swim team for two years. He is a member of the school's Rock and Soul Band that has achieved national recognition from DownBeat Magazine. He also is a founder of the school's undefeated club Frisbee Team. He is a member of the Medical Club and SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions). Karl has a thirst for learning and asks questions that show his maturity and insight into the scientific world. His Honors Biology teacher said he was an exceptional lab student and was the first to find some of the more difficult structures. He plans to go into the medical or neuro-science field in college. In addition, Karl is involved in several community service projects. He has served at St. Mary's Soup Kitchen. He visits the Ave Maria Nursing Home. He volunteers with Hope House and his Neighborhood Association. He regularly helps elderly neighbors with landscaping and yard work.
