
Winner in General Scholarship on March 7th, 2010
Nam, a senior, is an excellent student who stands out as a proven leader in the classroom. He holds a 4.9895 weighted grade point average and scored 27 on the ACT. He is slated to be the Salutatorian of his senior class of 391 students. He excelled in AP European History as a sophomore and AP U.S. History, AP World History and AP English Language and Composition last year. Nam is currently enrolled in AP Biology, AP Calculus and AP Psychology. Nam has been inducted into the Charles P. Jester Chapter of the National Honor Society and into Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society. Because of his outstanding performance on the four AP exams he has taken, he was named an AP Scholar. Nam also has been a recipient of the Memphis City Schools' William H. Sweet Award for Academic Excellence every year since the seventh grade. In addition, he is an important member of the school's Mock Trial Team, where he serves as the Lead Attorney. This year Nam not only organized the team but also was a great motivator to his teammates. Long before the season started, Nam would meet with other members of the faculty to discuss ways to improve. He heavily recruited the best of his classmates and served as a judge during team try-outs. Nam's knowledge and dedication made him an invaluable asset to the team and a great role model for his peers. Nam also served as captain of the varsity soccer team. Nam volunteers on a regular basis during the year for Theatre Memphis. He spends a considerable amount of time after school tutoring his peers in Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, AP Biology and German. He also volunteers at the soup kitchen at Idlewild Presbyterian Church.
