Winner in Drama & Speech on February 21st, 2010
Jessica, a junior, is a top student and talented performer. She holds a 3.3 unweighted grade point average. She carries a difficult course load of Advanced Placement and Honors classes. She successfully balances this academic work with her performance schedule and community service. Jessica is an Honor Roll student and will be inducted into the International Thespian Society this spring. Her nominator says she is "a phenomenal actress." She sets challenging goals and works tirelessly to achieve those goals. She recently auditioned to attend the Tennessee Governor's School for the Performing Arts. Jessica was selected as a Student Ambassador. In this role, she helps middle school students as they transition to high school, and she represents the school in the community. Jessica is co-president of the Southwind Junior Humane Society, which advocates animal responsibility. She also is a member of the girls' soccer team. As an active volunteer with Cherokee Baptist Church, Jessica organizes community outreach programs around the city including landscaping homeless shelters and community clean-up. She also works at a youth concession stand during Memphis Tiger football games. Jessica is a role model to her classmates and to the faculty. She has shown leadership in accumulating more than 400 community service hours during the past two years.
