
Winner in Foreign Language on October 24th, 2010
Gabriela, a senior, is a top student who excels in her Spanish language studies. She holds a 4.1622 weighted grade point average and currently is enrolled in AP Biology and AP U.S. Government. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Interact Club, Student Council, Spanish Club and Science Club. Gabriela was awarded the highest academic average in Spanish I, Spanish II, U.S. History, Psychology and Computer Applications. Gabriela has overcome many obstacles including making the transition to a new country and serving as the family translator for many daily life decisions. She is working diligently to prepare for higher education and consistently sets challenging goals. Gabriela also takes new students under her wing, especially those who are not proficient in the English language. She works with them in explaining topics discussed in class using a patient, caring way that instills confidence in these classmates. In addition, she volunteers as a peer tutor. Gabriela has volunteered her time for Habitat of Humanity and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She helped promote and organize two blood drives at Center Hill. She has been a vital influence in the Hispanic community, spreading knowledge about its culture and heritage. Her unquestionable character and cooperative nature make her a valuable asset to her school and community.
