Alyssa Radtke - Munford High School

Winner in Social Sciences & History on November 21st, 2010

Alyssa, a senior, is a top scholar and excellent student of the social sciences and history. She holds a 3.96 grade point average and scored 31 on the ACT. She has been recognized as a National Merit Commended Student. In her freshman year, she enrolled in AP Human Geography and earned a top score of “5” on the course’s AP exam. In addition, she has excelled in other AP courses and will begin college with 18 college credit hours. Alyssa was selected for the Tennessee Governor’s School for International Studies at the University of Memphis. She also attended The University of Mississippi’s Summer College for High School Students. Although Alyssa has a physical disability that confines her to a wheelchair, she never allows this to get in the way of academic success. She is a determined and motivated student who sees absolutely no limits to what she can accomplish in the future. Alyssa is a member of the National Honor Society, the Academic Knowledge Bowl Team and the 30+ Club. She was a member of the first place Spanish Conversation Team and earned second place in the state for Researched Persuasive Speaking. She also received the Academic Excellence Award the last three years. Alyssa was an understudy in the 2009 school production of “The Superfreaks.” She is a member of the Key Club, DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) and HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America). As a regular volunteer at Munford Presbyterian Church, Alyssa logs many community service hours as a weekly projector operator. She also helps with Vacation Bible School. She has volunteered for Camp Care, a camp that provides alternative therapy to special needs children, and the Schott Communities for Persons who are Deaf or Disabled.
