
Winner in Science on March 28th, 2010
Ben'e, a senior, is an excellent student who is gifted in science. She holds a 4.455 weighted grade point average and scored 29 on the ACT. She currently is ranked third in her senior class of 291 students. Ben'e has received many science honors during her high school career. In 9th grade, she place second in the local Science Fair. In 10th grade, she placed third in the local Science Fair and fourth in the regional Science Fair. She has a weighted average of 100 for each science class she has taken. She had the highest average in Chemistry III. Ben'e has taken a course load filled with Advanced Placement and Honors classes including AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP English and AP U.S. History. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Model United Nations, Bridge Builders and FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America). Ben'e also has been in the school band for four years and served as a section leader. In the classroom, Ben'e is respected for her knowledge. Other students and teachers stop and listen when she speaks. In addition, Ben'e enjoys working with others in the community. She mentors three at-risk elementary students three days a week. She is a peer partner for cadets earning their GEDs. She has worked with the Toys for Tots program for four years. Ben'e also participates in service projects through her church. She traveled to New Orleans on a mission trip where she worked painting a park recreation center, restoring a home and cleaning up a nursing home. She has seen first hand what it means to help someone and give them hope. This service impacted her life so much that she now wants to work in the field of Geriatrics. Ben'e's goal is to improve the quality of life for the aging.
