Ben Pope - Briarcrest Christian High School

Ben, a senior, is an outstanding student, leader and athlete. He holds a 5.27 weighted grade point average and scored 34 on the ACT. He demonstrates a high standard of excellence that makes him the perfect role model for his peers. He was named a National Merit Commended Student, AP Scholar with Honor, Porter Scholarship Winner, and Who’s Who Briarcrest Winner. In addition, he is a six-year recipient of the Joseph A. Clayton Award for Academic Excellence. He currently is ranked second in his senior class of 129 students. A versatile student and leader, Ben has served on the Honor Council, Briarcrest Ambassadors, Student Council, National Honor Society (President), National Latin Honor Society, National Science Honor Society and Knowledge Bowl Team. He has been class president for two years. He manages to juggle a life filled with academics, athletics, family, church, school and friends. When faced with difficulty and deadlines, Ben has the innate ability to prioritize responsibilities and use his unparalleled work ethic to complete the project with nothing less than excellence. His insight, maturity and sound judgment are qualities that set him apart from his classmates. As captain of the wrestling team, Ben led the school to the State Championships where he earned a fourth place medal. He was a Pepsi Best of the Preps wrestler. He also was a vital member of the school’s varsity football team and lacrosse team. In addition, Ben was selected for the U.S. Naval Academy Summer Seminar. He volunteers with the Memphis Human Society, Memphis Union Mission, Senior Buddies Mentor and Youth Visions as a tutor. He recently traveled on a mission trip to Honduras where he helped build a church and worked with children in need.
