Nick Shellhart - Brighton High School

Winner in Science on March 28th, 2010

Nick, a senior, is an outstanding student who excels in the study of science. He holds a 3.744 unweighted grade point average and scored 30 on the ACT. He has taken Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Anatomy and Physiology. He plans to continue his studies in biology at UT-Martin. Nick is a member of the Duke TIP (Talent Identification Program) and a three-year recipient of the Cardinal Academic Excellence Award. He was inducted into the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society. He received the freshman and sophomore Scholastic Honor Awards. He also is an ACT All-Star. Nick currently is enrolled in Calculus-Dual Enrollment and will earn eight college credit hours from Dyersburg Community College. He also has taken College Prep English and College Prep U.S. History. Nick is a four-year member of the Brighton High School football team and participates in FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). He is a member of HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America). Nick is a role model to his peers. He is not swayed by peer pressure and believes that success in life is based on an individual's merit and ability. Away from school, Nick participates in several community service projects. He volunteers for the March of Dimes-March of Babies. He also is a member of the Brighton Buddies. With this group, he goes to elementary schools to work with Kindergarten and First Grade classrooms.
