
Winner in Music on March 21st, 2010
Hannaan, a senior, is a top student and talented vocalist. She holds a 4.125 weighted grade point average and is a past recipient of the Memphis City Schools William H. Sweet Award for Academic Excellence. She has been inducted into the Charles P. Jester Chapter of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society. She has been selected for the All-West Tennessee Senior High Choir for the past three years and has earned a spot with the Tennessee All-State Honors choir for two years. She and her fellow Concert Choir members have performed with the Memphis Youth Symphony three times in a Martin Luther King Jr. tribute at the Cannon Center. Hannaan also was chosen to perform with the Central High School Choral Group at Lincoln Center in New York City. She competed with the Concert Choir at a festival in Washington D.C., where the group received first place and superior ratings. Hannaan is the Soprano I section leader. She also mentors younger singers in the Vocal Music I class. Hannaan is the Student Council Vice President and is praised by her advisors for her exemplary leadership skills. She has served on the Student Council Executive Board for two years and has attended the Tennessee Association of Student Councils Summer Leadership Camp and four TASC workshops. She was on the planning team that hosted the TASC regional workshop last fall. She has been a delegate for three Southern Association of Student Councils' Conferences. During her sophomore year, Hannaan was a member of the varsity cheer squad. She also was a three-year member of the tennis team, helping her team claim a district title. In addition, she is a Big Sister to a fifth grader at Peabody Elementary and tutors this student. Hannaan volunteered in the soup kitchen at St. John's United Methodist Church, participated in food drives and served as a Shelby Farms Earth Day volunteer. For the past three years, she has participated in the Race to Erase Racism and serves on the planning team for this event. She also is involved in Bridge Builders and is a member of the NAACP Youth Council.
