
Winner in General Scholarship on April 4th, 2010
Daniel, a senior, is a top student and respected leader. He holds a 4.46 weighted grade point average and scored 25 on the ACT. He currently is ranked fifth in a class of 321 seniors. He has taken a challenging course load that has included AP English Literature, AP English Language, AP Environmental Science, AP U.S. History and AP World History. In addition, Daniel excels in his Cooperative Education classes. He currently serves as president of DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America). Daniel credits his co-op curriculum with helping him adjust to being the Executive Officer of the JROTC program. In 2008 the co-op program joined with the school Robotics Team and created a project that earned third place at the state robotics competition in Starkville, Miss. Daniel also is a student leader with FISH (a Bible study group), vice president of the Patriot Club, co-captain of the Knowledge Bowl Team and parliamentarian of the Student Government Association. Daniel is actively involved in the Beta Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) and the National Spanish Honor Society where he is the historian. Daniel was president of his sophomore class and vice president of the junior class. As a junior, he participated in the principal's leadership program known as PLAID. This group worked with at-risk intermediate school students. Daniel was a four-year member of the varsity soccer team and he played freshman football. He is a volunteer coach with the Nesbit church soccer league and he works with exceptional children. As a member of the Octagon Club, he helped collect food for the needy. Daniel also participates in "Keep Horn Lake Beautiful." During the summer of 2009, he attended the Young Guns Summer Program at Mississippi State University. At his church he serves as a youth leader and mission leader. As a member of the JROTC, Daniel represents the high school at numerous community events, often as a part of the color guard.
