
Winner in Career-Technical on March 14th, 2010
Yasmeen, a senior, is a top student who enjoys community service. She holds a 3.36 grade point average and hopes to study nursing at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Yasmeen has a spot on the Distinguished Honor Roll and has been in the Optional Program since she started elementary school. She has been recognized for becoming a semi-finalist for the Oprah 20K Scholarship. Yasmeen is a member of the Health Sciences Department, the Environmental Club and the Yearbook Committee. With the Health Sciences Department, she has performed numerous community service projects. She worked on one project with the senior class that made a difference to her and the school. It was the Hope House Project. The students donated gift cards and coloring books to the children and the families of those affected by HIV and/or AIDS. Yasmeen also is part of an organization called N.U.L.I.T.E.S. (National Urban League Incentives to Excel and Succeed). This organization's focus is to provide opportunities for youth from economically and socially challenged backgrounds and diverse cultures. It promotes high standards of well-being, academic excellence and character and leadership qualities. Yasmeen holds the position of Membership Officer for the group. This is a leadership position through which she recruits new members and keeps the records of all the members. Yasmeen is known for having a positive attitude and a willingness to work with others to reach her goals.
