
Winner in General Scholarship on March 7th, 2010
Ben, a senior, is an outstanding student who not only excels in the classroom but also in athletics and in the community. He holds a 4.686 weighted grade point average, scored 34 on the ACT and 2000 on the SAT. He is a National Merit Commended Student and an Eagle Scout. Ben is a member of the National Honor Society, National French Honor Society, Math Club and Key Club. He received the CalTech Signature Award and earned 10th place in the Rhodes Math Competition. He also was designated an AP Scholar for his high scores on AP exams. He was selected a Student Ambassador and a Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership School representative. Ben is Student Government Association Commissioner of Student Affairs and captain of the school's Cross Country Team. He also runs track for the Purple Wave. For his Eagle Project, Ben spearheaded the building of a rose garden for the nuns at the Poor Clares Monastery in Frayser. He put in 36 hours completing this project. After becoming an Eagle Scout during his junior year, Ben remained active in scouting and is currently an adult leader for the troop. Ben also participates with Habitat for Humanity. Ben believes in service to those who are less fortunate. With this in mind, he spends many hours tutoring school children at De LaSalle Blessed Sacrament Jubilee School, St. John Catholic School and St. Michael Catholic School. He also is active with the school's Big Brothers program.
