Jared Sturgell - Bolton High School

Winner in General Scholarship on April 11th, 2010

Jared, a senior, is a top student and excellent leader. He holds a 4.36 weighted grade point average and scored 30 on the ACT. He is an active member of the National Honor Society and has received the Bolton High School Academic Excellence Award for three years. Jared has taken a rigorous course schedule which has included many Advanced Placement and Honors classes. He is on track to be the school's Salutatorian this year. Jared attended the United States Military Academy's Summer Leadership Seminar last summer, and he strives to be a leader in every aspect of his life. He has been actively involved in Boy Scouts since he was 11 and has achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. During his participation with the Boy Scouts, he built an information display at the Raleigh Cemetery, spent ten days backpacking at the Philmont Scout Base in New Mexico and restored trails along the way, and taught Trailblazer classes to younger Scouts at Merit Badge Colleges. Jared is also a starting linebacker for Bolton High School's varsity football team. Last year he was a member of the newspaper staff and received praise from his teacher for his writing ability. Jared has completed a four-year "Duty to God" program for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and currently is enrolled in his fourth year of a daily early morning seminary class. He now serves as the president of his church's youth group and formerly served as secretary. Jared has a passion for service. Working with his church, he has volunteered for tornado and hurricane relief for damaged homes in the Mid-South. Jared is hardworking, disciplined and responsible and always goes above and beyond what is expected.
