Alanna Murphy - St. Benedict High School

Alanna, a senior, is an outstanding student who has a passion for literature and drama. She currently ranks first in a class of 235 seniors. She holds a 4.62 weighted grade point average while taking a course load filled with AP and Honors classes. She was accepted to attend two Tennessee Governor’s Schools and selected the Governor’s School for the Arts, which is by audition. During high school, Alanna has excelled in many areas earning awards for the highest average in Honors English I, II and III, Honors World History, Theology III and Honors Spanish III. She also received excellence awards in Honors Physical Science, Honors Biology, Honors Spanish II, Honors Chemistry and Honors Pre-Calculus. Based on her score on the National Spanish Exam, she ranked in the upper 12% nationally. She is historian for Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society, and secretary of the Spanish Club. Alanna has been inducted into the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and the International Thespian Society. She won first place in the schools first “Poetry Out Loud” competition with a powerful rendition of Edna St. Vincent Millay’s “Time Does Not Bring Relief.” She is an integral member of the Show Choir and Drama Group, which has won competition awards. Recently, Alanna played the pivotal role of Yonah in the production of “Children of Eden.” She has appeared in numerous other musical and dramatic shows and performed a scene from the school’s production of “Singin’ in the Rain” at the First Annual Orpheum High School Musical Awards. Alanna’s extensive record of community service includes volunteering with Special Olympics, the Down Syndrome Walk, Mid-South Food Bank collections, HopeWorks, Inc., King’s Sons & Daughters and the Ave Maria Nursing Home. She also enjoys serving as a counselor at Drama Camp for elementary school students.
