
Winner in General Scholarship on March 7th, 2010
Erika, a senior, is a top student and leader. She holds a 4.0 unweighted grade point average and scored 34 on the ACT. She has been recognized as a National Merit Commended Student. Erika has been inducted into the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society. She placed "Gold" in the National Spanish Exam two consecutive years. She also earned first place in the Tennessee HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) Medical Math state competition. Erika participated in the 2009 HOSA National Leadership conference and was honored with a Leadership Academy Leadership Award. The University of Tennessee Alumni Association recognized her with the Tennessee Leader of Tomorrow Award. In addition, Erika is an active member of the Beta Club, Horizons and Student Impact. She believes in community service and has been involved in a variety of volunteer activities. She is co-chair of the Houston High School Autism Service Projects group, an autism fundraising and awareness organization. She has volunteered with Church Without Doors, Race for Education, Race for the Cure, Special Education Field Day and other local projects. Erika also has worked with World Changers locally and in Alaska doing housing repairs, and volunteered for Hurricane Katrina Clean-Up. Erika has shown great maturity and determination in effectively balancing a rigorous college preparatory course load and a personal commitment to community service.
