
Winner in English & Literature on February 28th, 2010
Wade, a senior, is an outstanding student who is gifted in the study of English literature and writing. He holds a 5.49 weighted grade point average, scored 34 on the ACT and 2310 on the SAT. He has taken five AP exams, including AP English Language and Composition, and earned a top score of "5" on each of them. As a result, the College Board named him an AP Scholar with Distinction. Wade also has been named a National Merit Semifinalist and has been a Dean's Scholar each semester at MUS. He also made a perfect score on the 2008 National Latin Exam. Wade is a member of the National Honor Society, Cum Laude Society, National Latin Honor Society, National History Honor Society, Quill and Scroll (the journalism Honor Society) and Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society. Wade is a finalist for the prestigious North Carolina State University Park Scholarship. He received two Tennessee High School Press Association Awards. He was selected for the school's journalism fellowship to attend Columbia University's Scholastic Press Association Summer Workshop in New York last summer. Wade is the editor of the school's student-run newspaper, "The Owl's Hoot." As editor, Wade is responsible for editing, writing, assigning stories, overseeing layout, selecting photographs, proofing and managing the staff. He started as a staff writer in ninth grade, wrote a column in 10th grade and served as section editor in 11th grade. Wade is co-president of the Latin Club. He also is a member of the Tennessee Junior Classical League and has been elected state parliamentarian twice. Wade is co-founder of the Green Owl's Club, the school's first recycling club. He also has been very active in the Government Club, serving as vice-president during his junior and senior years. He also participated in YMCA Model UN and Youth in Government. During his junior year, he was elected General Assembly vice president by UN delegates from across Tennessee. Wade enjoys working in the community. He is a volunteer for Page Robbins Adult Day Care, which specializes in helping those with Alzheimer's. He performs many duties from watering flowers to playing card games with the adults. He also volunteered in the 2006 campaign of Harold Ford and in the 2008 presidential campaign of President Barack Obama.
