
Winner in English & Literature on February 28th, 2010
Ariel, a senior, is an outstanding student who excels in English. She holds a 3.9 unweighted grade point average and scored 32 on the ACT. This year she is taking AP English and has the highest writing scores of any student. Ariel has been named a National Merit Commended Student and is a regular on the Principal's List. She tutors freshmen students in English. She uses her computer know-how to develop projects that exceed expectations. For a class project on American culture, she created a 10-minute video that compiled images from top television, movie, literature and music ratings to determine the values of American entertainment. Ariel also is president of the Spanish Club and a founding member of the Geo-caching Society, a group that provides an opportunity for students to learn about the history and landmarks of Shelby County. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Beta Club and the school choir. Because of scheduling, she was not able to practice with the high school choir so she decided to practice with the middle school choir. She now has become a mentor to these middle school students. Ariel also has been named an alternate for Tennessee Governor's School. She is an active member of Bellevue Baptist's youth group. She participates as a mentor to the Girls' Council, which organizes activities for the females. She also teaches a class for preschoolers. In addition, Ariel volunteers two Saturdays a month for Impact, a local food bank. She spends time organizing and handing out food to the needy.
