
Winner in Mathematics on January 29th, 2012
JaVorah, a senior, is a top math student who demonstrates exceptional leadership skills. She holds a 4.88 weighted grade point average and scored 26 on the ACT. She currently is ranked 4th in a senior class of more than 400 students. She is enrolled in four AP classes this year including AP Calculus and AP Statistics. She is an active member of the school’s award-winning Student Council In addition, JaVorah is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society. She assists her AP Calculus teacher by tutoring her peers. She loves math because of its complexity and the challenges it presents. When she tutors, she enjoys increasing not only her classmates’ capability but also their confidence. JaVorah is a natural leader who has a compassionate spirit. As a volunteer at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, she works three hours every Friday night in the infant care unit. She also serves the homeless and needy at various soup kitchens. She is quick to take the lead for clothes and food drives.
