
Winner in Drama & Speech on February 21st, 2010
Louis, a junior, is an exceptional student and leader. He holds a 4.0 weighted grade point average and scored 30 on the ACT. He has taken a rigorous course load of AP and Honors classes. He has been selected for the National Honor Society and the highly competitive Knowledge Bowl Team. He also is a member of the International Thespian Society. He currently serves as Junior Class Chaplain. Louis is President of the Young Apostles, a group that sponsors the 30-Hour Famine. This event, which raises money for the international humanitarian group World Vision, offers students valuable insights into the plight of people in poverty. Louis auditioned and earned a spot in the Celebration Troupe Show Choir, a group that sponsors dramatic and musical productions. He has performed many memorable roles. He played Medulla in "The Worst High School Play Ever;" Audrey II's voice in "Little Shop of Horrors," Eugene in "Grease," and Ellard in the "Foreigner." Audiences were literally "blown away" with his voice of the overgrown and man-eating plant Audrey II. He received standing ovations following the performances. Louis also has been part of the ensemble for other productions including "Thoroughly Modern Millie," "Twelve Angry Men," and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels." Louis always brings something special to every role no matter how unusual or eclectic the character. Louis is adaptable and able to appear in many types of dramatic and musical presentations. Louis also coordinated a recent Merit Badge College where more than 300 Boy Scouts converged on the St. Benedict campus on a Saturday to take classes for 24 merit badges. During his middle school years, Louis won several awards in Forensics competition and also held the leading roles in the productions of "Music Man" and "Fiddler on the Roof." Louis is proud to be involved in Bridge Builders, a community-wide leadership and diversity organization that brings students together from all over the greater Memphis area. Through this program, Louis has become a true leader and has learned to use his talents to better the community. Louis also is a member of Teens for Life and the Ultimate Frisbee Team.
