Hillary Clements - Hernando High School

Winner in General Scholarship on February 7th, 2010

Hillary, a senior, is a top student and respected leader. She holds a 98.58 weighted grade point average and scored 31 on the ACT. She has taken the most challenging courses the school offers including AP History, AP English Language and Composition, and AP English Literature and Composition. Hillary is a member of the National Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society. She consistently makes the Principal's List and Honor Roll. She will be designated a Hernando High Senior Intellectual. Hillary is captain of the cheerleading squad. Under her leadership, the squad won Camp Champs and the coveted Leadership Award during the 2009 UCA Summer Camp. Hillary also is on the Executive Committee of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions). This committee plans and organizes all activities for Drug-Free Week and Prom Promise, two programs that work to ensure that students make the right decisions in their lives. In addition, Hillary was elected to the Student Council and is a member of FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). In the classroom, Hillary is the one to speak up and ask for clarification from the teachers. Her classmates, many who are often afraid to ask for help, praise this attribute. Some even say that Hillary's persistence in asking crucial questions has helped them make better grades in math. Hillary is highly respected by the faculty and administration for her curiosity in the classroom and the ability to motivate her peers. She also has donated many hours to community service. She has assisted in blood drives, food drives and fundraising for UNICEF. Hillary served meals to the local National Guard Troops returning from or leaving for war. She also provided childcare during National Guard Family Day. She has volunteered at a local animal shelter, where she fed and groomed animals and assisted in the recovery room after operations. She also led Hernando in a Home Town Walk to promote a healthier Mississippi.
