Winner in General Scholarship on April 11th, 2010

Bianca, a junior, is an outstanding student and community servant. She is ranked at the top of her class with a 3.82 grade point average. Bianca sets the tone in the classroom where she is focused and dedicated to her studies. She exemplifies excellence in academics and serves as a role model for her peers. Bianca's math and English teachers selected Bianca when asked for Academic All-Stars nominations. In 2008 she earned the title of Ms. Douglass and Most Valuable Player of the Year at the Annual Athletic Banquet for her extraordinary skills in basketball and volleyball. In addition, Bianca serves with The City Builders Youth Organization. Its mission is to rebuild the Highland Heights neighborhood where 90 percent of the youth receive free or reduced school lunch and nearly 50 percent of all residents live in poverty. The group also believes in helping and serving others. With this in mind, Bianca traveled to Pawley Island, South Carolina, in 2008 to renovate houses. During this time, Bianca became a City Builder team leader. She had to analyze each task and then work to execute its completion. She was a conscientious leader and quickly understood the power that comes when individuals unite for a common cause. The work was difficult, hot and sweaty, but Bianca maintained a positive attitude in rallying her team to get the job done. Bianca also held Vacation Bible School for children in her community. She constantly interacted with the children and was perceptive and sensitive to the needs of those who tended to withdraw from the group. In addition, Bianca is an active member of Big Brothers Big Sisters and takes her role as a mentor very seriously.
