
Winner in General Scholarship on April 11th, 2010
Elaine, a senior, is a top scholar who enjoys challenges. She holds a 5.26 weighted grade point average and scored 2310 on the SAT. She has taken a difficult course load filled with AP and Honors classes and was named a National Merit Semifinalist. She was selected to the Sara Frey History Society and the Psi Nu Sigma honorary math group. Elaine also received the prestigious Middlebury Book Award for her distinguished academic achievement. She has taken AP Biology, AP British Literature, AP U.S. History, AP English Literature and Advanced Honors Pre Calculus. Elaine was elected to the Honor Council four years ago and is the vice president this year. For three years, she has been chosen as class representative to the Wordsmith competition. She has placed and won in the international creativity program and competition, Destination Imagination, Knowledge Bowl, regional science bowls and math competitions and regional language fairs. She is fluent in Spanish. With her interest in global, national and local public policy issues, Elaine helped raise the awareness and involvement among the student body. For three years, she has been an avid participant in the Youth Legislature and Model UN. As a participant in Hutchison's Rogers Scholars program, Elaine has pursued in-depth learning about the missions, structure and programming of a variety of not-for-profit service organizations. She has worked on mission trips with her church here and abroad. She also has worked with Habitat for Humanity and the Books from Birth initiative that promotes and provides books to young children. Elaine has 12 years of classical music training as a pianist. She also enjoys both onstage roles and technical work on musical comedy productions. She has helped the school's a cappella vocal ensemble garner regional and state prizes and has sung for seniors in assisted living residences. Elaine is a deeply committed student and skilled leader who is highly respected by her classmates and teachers.
