Bryan Casillas - Briarcrest Christian High School

Bryan, a senior, is an excellent student who shows great interest in mastering the Spanish language. He holds a 4.71 weighted grade point average and scored 33 on the ACT. He studied Latin in middle school and is currently taking his fourth year of high school Spanish. Because of Bryan's Spanish patrimonial heritage, he has great enthusiasm and a desire to learn the language in order to be able to communicate better with his family members. Bryan is a member of the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society. He is a three-year recipient of the Joseph A. Clayton Award for Excellence. He currently is enrolled in three Advanced Placement and three honors classes. Bryan also is an active member of the Key Club and Spanish Club. He demonstrates effective leadership qualities as team captain of the school's varsity cross country and track teams and as secretary of the senior class. He also is a leader of the school's chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and vice president of the Invisible Children's Group. Bryan's peers look to him for advice, friendship and encouragement. In the classroom, he is attentive, persevering and inquisitive. Because of his logical, creative and thorough approach to his studies, his teachers praise his academic work. As an unassuming, caring and dedicated student, Bryan is a role model to his peers. He has a heart for helping others. He is a volunteer for Bellevue Loves Memphis, where he helps with service projects like cleaning the grounds and landscaping. He also is an eager participant in One Great Day of Service, a project sponsored by his high school, where students perform volunteer work for various nonprofit organizations around the city.
