Frankie Dakin - Millington Central High School

Frankie, a senior, is a top student and impressive leader. He holds a 3.6 unweighted grade point average. He scored 27 on the ACT and 1820 on the SAT. Since his freshman year, Frankie has taken an ambitious course load filled with 14 Honors and four AP courses. Frankie ranks 17th in a class of 316 seniors. He is a conscientious learner who has sought challenge and rigor over comfort and complacency. He is treasurer of the National Honor Society, president of the Beta Club and a member of Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society. He served as class president his freshman and sophomore years. He currently serves as co-president of the Student Government Association. He has served with Bridge Builders since his sophomore year and assisted with the implementation of "Mixing It Up," a day of embracing racial differences by sitting with a classmate of a different race during lunch. He was selected to attend Boys' State, where he was chosen as the sheriff. As a leader in many organizations, Frankie strives to make an impact that will bring improvement in a positive way. He also has demonstrated leadership as captain of the football team. Frankie has a natural ability to garner respect from his peers. He is a role model for his classmates in the classroom, on the athletic field and in the community. He is also a gifted writer who is able to express himself creatively in a manner that is refreshing and compelling. Frankie spends his free time volunteering at Millington Healthcare, a nursing home, and serving meals at the Memphis Union Mission. He coordinated a school-wide blood drive to address the shortage of certain types of blood in the Mid-South. He also worked to beautify the grounds of the school by planting a flower garden outside the vocational building. In addition, he has volunteered extensively at E.A. Harrold Elementary School reading to the students and helping with the school's fall festival. He also is a member of the Shelby County Schools Student Advisory Board, a selective group of student leaders who meet with school board members and provide a voice for students on new policies.
