Courtney Sawyers - St. George's Independent School

Courtney, a senior, is a top student and gifted singer. She holds a 4.43 weighted grade point average. She scored 29 on the ACT and 1980 on the SAT. She exhibits a unique poise when it comes to performing. She is professional in her attitude toward practice and rehearsals. Courtney is a member of the All West Honor Choir, the Tri-M Music Honor Society, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and the Upper School Peer Leadership Council. She received the school's Chorus Award and placed in multiple vocal competitions in Mississippi and Tennessee. Courtney serves as the Upper School Chorus president and soprano section leader. As a dedicated vocalist, she has sung the National Anthem at dozens of school events, Memphis Grizzlies' games and Memphis Redbirds' games. She is an active member of the Thespian Club and was a featured performer in school productions of "Godspell" and "School House Rock." She was the winner of the Jackson Symphony's Young Vocalist Competition and was featured soloist at the Christmas Pops Concert in 2007. Courtney has served as a camp counselor for Camp Dragon, a summer program for younger students at the St. George's-Memphis campus. She has participated in many school-sponsored fundraising events including Ali's Way, Invisible Children and the Wildflower Garden Project. She is co-captain of the school's pom squad and received its Dedication Award. Courtney gives of her time and talent by performing for various groups. She has provided entertainment for the Arthritis Foundation's fundraiser, Spirit of Giving Awards, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Bartlett Senior Citizens Association and the Villages of Germantown Retirement Home. Courtney is a dedicated, focused student who concentrates on academics as much as her vocal endeavors. She is an accomplished, well-rounded young lady and selfless performer.
